Driving back from my family vacation near Eau Clair, Wisconsin, I was in doubt of finding a place to eat that fit my family’s sustainable food likings. I stopped for gas in Foster, WI and after filling up, my wife suggested we eat lunch at the cheese store next to the gas station. As we walked in the Foster Cheese Haus, I realized the cheeses and meats in this store were organic, locally raised and complimented with shelves stocked full of local craft beer.

Foster Cheese Haus features artisan cheeses from around Wisconsin and opened under new management in June, 2009. This locavore retail business also offers one of the best craft beer selections in southwest Wisconsin. Look for the beer cave at the back of Foster’s where you will be delighted with a large walk-in-cooler style craft beer room. I noted over 20 craft brewers’ beers in the beer cave some of which included Two Brothers, Rush River, Founders, Mad Hatter, Victory Brewing Co, New Glarus Brewing (of coarse), Harbor City Brewing and so many more.

This craft beer supporting retail location also offers free wireless Internet access, plenty of parking, outdoor seating and a beautiful new make-over courtesy of the new owners.

In addition to Foster’s profound selection of beer and cheese, the store also has a sit down family friendly restaurant where you can enjoy soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas made from local ingredients (oh and local craft beer too).

If you ever find yourself on I-94 near Eau Claire, WI, make sure to stop in at Foster Cheese Haus.
